About This Practice

To compare large numbers, count digits first: more digits means bigger. When digit counts match, compare from the highest place downward, one place at a time. Practice ordering several large numbers until the โ€œdigits first, then high placesโ€ rule becomes automatic.

How to Play

  1. Count the digits of each number โ€” the one with more digits is larger.
  2. When digit counts match, start comparing from the highest place.
  3. If that place ties, move one place down until the tie breaks.
  4. Order the large numbers from smallest to largest.
  5. Say it out loud: what do you check first when comparing two large numbers?
