Factors & Multiples

Factors divide it exactly; multiples are it × 1, 2, 3 …

About This Practice

Factors and multiples go hand in hand: the numbers that divide it exactly are its factors, and it times 1, 2, 3… gives its multiples. Tap any number on the chart — in “factors” mode all its factors light up, in “multiples” mode its multiples do. You will discover that factors are finite while multiples never end.

Tap any number on the chart: in “factors” mode all of its factors light up, in “multiples” mode all its multiples up to 36 do. A number has finitely many factors but endlessly many multiples.

How to Play

  1. Open “factors” mode and tap a number on the chart.
  2. Watch its factors light up: how many are there?
  3. Switch to “multiples” mode and watch them light up endlessly.
  4. Compare: what is different about the two counts?
  5. Tap a few more numbers to confirm: finite factors, endless multiples.
