About This Practice

The factors of 12 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 and the factors of 18 are 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18 — the numbers 1, 2, 3, 6 that appear in both circles are the common factors of 12 and 18, and the greatest one, 6, is their greatest common factor (GCF). A Venn diagram puts both factor sets side by side so the overlap tells the whole story.

Two numbers each light up their own factors: whatever shows up in both circles is a common factor. Tap the button and the common factors gather into the highlighted overlap — the boxed one is the greatest common factor. Keep trying with new random pairs!
