Pie Charts

A slice's size is its central angle: every 1% equals 3.6°

About This Practice

A pie chart shows the whole with one circle and each part's share of the total with a slice. The full circle is 360°, split into 100 equal shares, so every 1% corresponds to 3.6° — a 25% slice has a central angle of 25 × 3.6° = 90°. Watch bar data become a pie, then tap each slice to connect count, percent, and angle.

Turn bar survey data into a pie chart: the whole circle is the total 100, and each slice's central angle = percent × 3.6°. Tap any slice to read its count, percent, and angle, and see how parts relate to the whole.

How to Play

  1. Read the bar data: how many for each category? What is the total?
  2. Look at the circle: the whole circle is the total 100, i.e. 100%.
  3. Learn the conversion: angle = percent × 3.6° (360° ÷ 100).
  4. Tap a slice: read its count, percent, and central angle.
  5. Get new data, guess the angles first, then check.
