About This Practice

Whatever is left after fair sharing is the remainder. Tap “Share” and apples are dealt onto plates round by round — every plate gets the same, and when dealing must stop, the leftovers are the remainder. Play a few rounds and a pattern emerges: the remainder is always smaller than the divisor (the number of plates).

How to Play

  1. Count up: how many apples, how many plates?
  2. Tap “Share” and watch apples dealt onto the plates one round at a time.
  3. Does every plate hold the same? What happened at the end?
  4. Look at the leftover apples — that is the remainder.
  5. Try new numbers and compare: which is smaller, the remainder or the number of plates?
